Cultivating Stability in Jesus

Newton Chapel’s purpose is to cultivate stability in Jesus through connection, catechesis, and common prayer. But what does it mean to “cultivate stability in Jesus?”

To cultivate means to prepare and use land, especially for farming. So it’s a metaphor for tending to our spiritual lives. It is investing our time and energy so we can reap a harvest over time by God’s grace.

We want to reap stability. Stability is living with purpose in a particular place among a particular people. One image is the grandmother who has lived in the same town for decades, has an open door policy, and prays for everyone she knows.

And we believe that stability is found in Jesus. It is in the God-man who came to earth, ushered in the Kingdom of God, died and came back to life so that we could live the life we were made to live.

To summarize in practical terms, we want to work on the habits that foster our relationship with God so we can know him and his peace in this life. We want to enjoy the presence of God in our daily lives, moment by moment.
